The second annual TIES Inspiring Showcase was a successful event, celebrating the remarkable achievements of women from TIES Entrepreneurship Programs. About 30 market booths showcased the diverse businesses launched by these inspiring graduates, while a thrilling pitch competition awarded cash prizes to fuel their continued growth.
We’re excited to share CTV news coverage of the event and more highlights on YouTube.
“Many new immigrants are highly educated when they come to Canada, but they cannot practice in their trained field upon arriving,” says Vivian Escorsin, Manager, Entrepreneurship Programs, TIES. “Many of these women have run successful businesses in the past and hope to continue this method of financial support and independence in Canada.”
Still, research states that, without support, women are less likely to turn to formal financial institutions for start-up funding, for example, due to a lack of understanding of Canadian business practices and credit history in Canada. “TIES entrepreneurship programs bridge that gap”, notes Escorsin.
Through the IWEP (Integrated Women’s Entrepreneurship project) and NIWBE (New Immigrant Women Becoming Entrepreneurs) programs, TIES provides women with the knowledge and tools they need to launch, establish, and grow their small businesses. The goal of the programs is to train aspiring entrepreneurs in business foundations to get them ready to start their businesses and to support business owners in structuring their growth, while connecting them with existing resources and services available.
